Cyanotype is one of the earliest photographic printing techniques ever developed. It produces a blue and white negative image - areas where UV light does not hit the sensitized or chemically-treated material will remain white, while areas exposed to light will oxidize and turn blue. Cyanotype is where the term “blueprints” comes from, as engineers and architects used this process as a low-cost method to produce copies of drawings.
In printmaking, a cyanotype print is made by arranging objects on sensitized paper and exposing to sunlight. Join Kate Short to create cyanotype images on paper and fabric!
