This is a great class for students with a bit of painting experience interested in discovering more about acrylic painting. Working at their own pace, students will explore the use of acrylic paints, brushes and acrylic mediums while they develop and improve their painting techniques and learn to paint in their own style, whether it be landscape, fantasy or abstract.

Supplies list:

Paint:

  • A basic set of Acrylic paint tubes is acceptable to begin with, other colours may be added.

Preferred list of colours:

  • Titanium white[large]
  • Hookers green 
  • Napthol red
  • Ultramarine blue
  • Curelean blue
  • Cadmium yellow med.
  • Indigo blue or Paynes grey
  • Yellow ochre
  • Burnt sienna
  • Burnt umber.[dark brown, may be replaced with other dark brown]

Brushes:

  • Please buy acrylic or nylon type brushes with long handles-short handles are for watercolour. 
  • Bristle[hog hair] brushes are for oil ptg. but one is good for scrub technique in acrylics, get size 6 or 8
  • Complete sets of acrylic nylon brushes are available in a roll that is self storing
  • the following are essential sizes;
  • Flats-A one inch flat plus #4, 8 and 12
  • Rounds-#1, 3 and 6. Plus a size 0 or 1 script liner [very long nylon bristles]

Canvases:

  • Pre-finished sizes 16 by 20 inches and up. Please, no smaller.

Other materials:

  • Pad of pallette paper[ easiest cleanup]
  • Acrylic medium needed is --Matte medium, [others may be added later on if wished.]
  • Several yogurt containers for water
  • Masking tape roll
  • Pencil, HB, and 8 by 10 sketchbook.
  • Roll of Canadian Tire blue towels or soft absorbent rags NOT acrylic material or terry towels.
  • Piece of white chalk if possible.
