COURSE- Drawing with Soft Pastels with Edward Hanson

New students learn the basic approaches to soft pastel art and returning students explore more advanced techniques. This combined intro/intermediate course covers soft pastels and related art materials, as well as techniques for students new to the medium and those looking to deepen their current knowledge. Several methods of pastel application will be explored, resulting in the completion of 3 to 4 works of art. 

Drawing skill is an asset but not required. 

 Materials List :

• 1 soft charcoal pencil
• 1 kneaded eraser
• 1 roll of 3⁄4 in. regular masking tape (no blue or green painter's tape)
• a set of dry (soft) pastels  (a minimum 24 colour variety)
• medium soft pastels 
• very soft pastels will be available to try during the sessions.
• textured pastel paper (1 or 2 sheets , 22” x 30”, neutral gray or warm colour (will be cut in 1/4s for use during session)

• some brands are available in smaller sized loose sheets or multi colour pads of 10 sheets which are very useful

Notes:

• quality soft pastels and textured pastel surfaces are available at Wyndham Art Supply in Guelph or online.
• If you own any artist grade dry (soft) pastels they will be appropriate for use.
• pastel pencils are useful,  but a set of pastel sticks is required
• Please note that the pastels in this course are NOT oil pastels .  Only soft (dry )pastels are used in this course.

Refund/cancellation notes:

• Attending the full session is the responsibility of the student. No refunds or credits are issued for missing classes, and instructors will not schedule any additional instructor-led make-up classes.
• Refunds or credits may be issued for cancellations made up to two weeks before class begins.  A 10% payment processing fee will be deducted from the total amount refunded.  No fees are deducted if a credit is selected.
• If  the cancellation is made two weeks or less before class begins, we regret that fees will not be refunded.
