A hands-on introductory experience to basic block making utilizing soft carve blocks, simple carving tools, and printing techniques. Participants will engage in an immersive exploration of traditional block printing practices, complemented by a visual presentation highlighting traditional techniques from India.
Samples will be provided to showcase the potential and limitations of block printing, offering insights into the range of possibilities. Additionally, modern tools and simplified techniques will be introduced, allowing participants to carve their own tile block or design. This practical session will be followed by printing using textile ink or other color mediums, enabling participants to experiment with creating repeat patterns and further understanding the intricacies of the craft.

Join award-winning artist Mark Yungblut as he guides participants through the delicate process of papercutting. Participants will be introduced to the technique via hands on instruction, and will learn the basics by creating their own unique work of art from stencils provided. All materials will be provided, and no experience is necessary.

Get together with Michael and Peter from woolwaterneedle to create a felted wool flower vase that doubles as a tea light holder. We’ll use the wet felting technique to create a decorative cover for a jam jar. As well, we’ll explore how to incorporate fibres which glow when the vase is illuminated with a candle and also decorations to enhance a bouquet of flowers. Go home with a finished creation for your home or to use as a gift.

Explore the exciting technique of linocut! Together we'll use small carving tools to cut into linoleum, and create a beautiful print block that can be used many times over. This printing style has been used for almost two centuries, and produces a striking, graphic finish. Come prepared with ideas, print-outs, and inspiration for your piece!

In this workshop, for artists new to Soft Pastel, we'll explore creating art based on identifying shapes and layering. We'll start with a short introduction to soft pastel materials and work from landscape source material to assist in composition and inspiration.
Please note that the Pastels in this course are NOT Oil Pastels.
