Learn how to make Ukrainian Easter eggs (pysanky) in this three hour workshop. Start by writing with beeswax on the eggs and dip them into batik dyes, going from the lightest to the darkest colour, until all of the egg is covered. Then remove the beeswax to reveal the colours, symbols and patterns you have created.
There are many traditional designs to choose from, associated with symbolic meaning: Pine boughs stand for strength and growth; stars and the sun symbolize growth and good fortune; spirals are meant to protect; a deer stands for victory and leadership; wheat signifies abundance.
You can follow step by step instructions to create a traditional design, or experiment and create a design of your own. The eggs are decorated in the spring to celebrate Easter and given away as gifts.
All materials included.

Explore the fascinating world of collage art in our inspiring workshop. Collage, derived from the French word "coller," meaning to glue, is a versatile 2D art form that involves incorporating various materials onto a surface. Popularized by Cubist artists Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso, collage has evolved into a captivating form of expression. It allows you to experiment with many different materials and offers endless creative possibilities.
We will start with some basic principles such as: how to built a background, work on composition, add focal points and embellishments. We will then select the materials to be used (glue, paper, newsprint, fabric, buttons, found objects or natural elements) and have fun making a unique collage on cardboard (8.5x11''). Embellishments such as doodles, black silhouettes, unique images, embroidery, etc. can be added. You will finish with a unique framable piece.
