  This is a two-day workshop where you will learn how to draft your own circle skirt pattern. You will decide the length and fullness of your skirt and whether it will have a zipper or elasticized waist. Non-stretch fabric must be purchased, washed in cold water then ironed before the first workshop date. Fabric requirements: For long full circle skirt, 4.0 metres. For shorter half-circle skirts, 2.0 metres. Matching thread, zipper and button or elastic for waistband. Fusible interfacing for waistband. MUST HAVE MACHINE SEWING EXPERIENCE

  Using Paul Klee's abstract art images as inspiration we will first cut our own stencils: circles, squares, squiggly lines and other geometric shapes. Using acrylic paint, gelli plates and a multi-print process you will create your own abstract  Klee- like piece of art!   The fundamentals of still life center on composition, lighting, colour, texture and perspective. Attention to detail is important as metal, fabric or glass reflect light differently.   Summer has a way of leaving behind little treasures - a smooth stone from a river stream, a weathered piece of driftwood, or a shell found on the shore. These found objects often carry the memories of our most cherished stories. In this workshop, you'll make a unique and one-of-a-kind pendant necklace to give your personal memories a permanent home.

  Bring a special souvenir from Summer to feature in your necklace, or pick from a wide variety of materials to craft your design - driftwood, beach glass, theme-related charms, and more. Learn basic jewelry-making techniques and how to incorporate that special memento into your pendant.

  Primary colours: Red, Blue and Yellow are basic hues that cannot be created by mixing other colours together and they are the building blocks of all other colours. In this workshop you will learn how to mix secondary colours: greens, oranges and violet and tertiary colours: yellow green, red orange and blue violet. We'll identify complementary colours and learn how to 'desaturate" a colour with its complement. By the end of this 3-hour workshop you will have a better understanding of the possible colours in your acrylic 'paintbox' and a colour wheel to use as a future reference.   In this class we’ll be looking at the basics of creating mosaics for function and beauty.  We’ll learn how to plan out designs (or go freestyle!), and what types of tiles (ceramic, vitreous glass) work best in different situations.  We’ll also learn how to cut the tiles, how to place them for best effect, and how to grout to complete the project.  Everyone will have the chance to complete two coasters or small trivets using the crazy paving and roman byzantine styles.
